Traditional rolled organic green tea
Gunpowder Green Tea, also known as Zhu Cha, which roughly translates to "Pearl Tea", is a traditional Chinese green tea renowned for its distinctively rolled leaves that loosely resemble pearls. Originating primarily from Zhejiang Province in eastern China, this tea has been enjoyed for centuries and is celebrated for its refreshing taste. Our Organic Gunpowder Green Tea is carefully grown and processed to preserve its natural freshness and authentic flavour.
Once harvested, the tea leaves are gently withered and oxidised and traditionally pan-fried to stop oxidation, a process that imparts a slightly smoky aroma and flavour. The leaves are then rolled by machine into pellets resembling pearls. This distinctive rolling technique helps protect the leaves from physical damage during packaging and storage, while allowing them to retain more of their natural flavour, freshness and aroma.
When infused in hot water, the tightly rolled pearls gradually unfurl, releasing their characteristic taste and fragrance.
Organic Gunpowder Green Tea, upon infusing, yields a yellowish-green to light green brew which is robust with a grassy flavour and characteristic slightly smoky notes. A gentle, refreshing bitterness and mild astringency are beautifully balanced by a subtle sweetness that lingers pleasantly on the palate.
