Natural Caffeine-Free Herbal Infusion
Jiaogulan, Gynostemma sp. (also known as Immortality tea) is a vine from the cucumber and melon family that grows in South and East Asia. It became famous as "immortality tea" due to a report from the 1970s which showed the popularity of the tea among inhabitants around the Fanjing Mountain region of the Guizhou province. These people were said to have a longer than normal lifespan.
Once harvested, the herb is cut, heat treated and dried. Upon brewing, the whole leaf tea yields a refreshing light yellow caffeine-free infusion with vegetal notes and sweetish bitter taste. The sweetish taste is enhanced and the bitterish taste is alleviated with each successive infusion.
- Jiaogulan (Gynostemma) is known to be a powerful adaptogen
- Limited clinical studies have also been conducted to support therapeutic applications such as a role in the management of type 2 diabetes, obesity, fatty liver disease and immune response (such as asthma)
